Get to Know a Gamer: Wooty

moondoggy23

Well-Known Member
Hello and welcome to a very special edition of Get to Know a Gamer. This week not only do you all have the pleasure of getting to know Wooty himself, but this is the very first GTKAG submitted as a blog, rather than a forum post. Wooty is the creator, editor and community manager of Team9000. If T9K were a virus, he'd be the point of origin. He's a Texan and is proof that everything is bigger in Texas (you should see his collection of rare balls of dryer lint, quite impressive!) Without any further lies and possible libel from me, here is the interview:

What is your earliest gaming memory?

When I was six or seven, my parents bought me Logical Journey of the Zoombinis. Considering it was the only game we had at the time (it took over an hour to install on Windows 95), I played it all the time. It was actually pretty fun for an educational game.

How did you get the idea for Team9000?

A couple years ago, the founding members were talking on mumble, trying to come up with a new name for our gaming broadcast channel. I have no idea how we wound up with Team9000.

What are your 5 favorite games?

This is a surprisingly difficult question, and I've had to put a lot of thought into this answer. I've tried to include all games from my past -- not just the recent ones I can remember. Keep in mind, this list is not all inclusive.

1. Counter Strike 1.6

cs-1.6.jpg

Although I never play it nowadays, CS 1.6 was a huge part of my life between middle and high school. I didn't play competitively (in tournaments), but still managed to play probably 20-40 hours per week. I ran several servers (powered by donations), all which ran my own custom mods. Labeled "Dark Effects," we had the most advanced Surf and Jump mod in the entire CS community -- it was much more advanced than any publicly available mod.

2. Halo 1

Yet another game that I used to play all the time. Prior to Halo 1's release, I actually played the demo level (The Silent Cartographer) on an Xbox demo disc which came with another game. Every time my friends would come over, we would play this single demo level over and over again, until we could literally speed-run the entire thing on the most difficult level. When the game was released, it was actually the first M-rated game my parents allowed me to buy. And boy-oh-boy, did we play that game a lot.

3. Pokemon

Anyone my age who doesn't have Pokemon in their top-5 is a liar. This was the game to play in elementary school. Hell, I even completely beat The Pokemon Trading Card Gameboy Game. Twice.

4. Sonic Colors

HELLZ YES. As a huge Sonic fan, I was overjoyed when Sonic Colors was released and had none of the crap that made Sonic Unleashed a terrible game. Sonic Colors is probably one of the only single-player games I have beaten more than once in the past few years.

5. Mario Kart 64 and Diddy Kong Racing

The Nintendo 64 was the first game console I was fully interested in (we had a NES, but I was very young at the time). Adventure games like Super Mario 64 were never really my thing -- I always preferred racing games. Mario Kart 64 and Diddy Kong Racing were two of my favorites, and I would challenge any of you guys to a match at any time. And I would win. Game on.

Games that didn't quite make the top five:
Half Life 1 and 2
Braid
Ratchet and Clank series
Left4Dead
Little Big Planet

What types of music do you enjoy listening to?

My favorite band at this moment (excluding the classics like the Beatles) would probably be Röyksopp. Thomas linked me to one of their songs a few years ago (Happy Up Here), and I've been hooked ever since. Other music I like includes: movie and game soundtracks, C418, and (when I'm working), one of the psy or dance stations on Digitally Imported Radio.

Who would win in a fight: The Incredible Hulk or The Thing?

Considering the fact that I have never read the Hulk comics, and the last time I saw The Thing was on a 16 inch CRT television, I probably couldn't predict this outcome very well.

Where do you want to see T9K in the future?

Over there --->

What would you do if you were a millionaire?

Probably exactly the same thing I do now, except in a bigger house. Money doesn't affect my life much.

What are your 5 favorite movies?

I've seen WAY too many movies to rank them in any sensical order. Here's a few of the ones I liked enough to purchase the soundtrack (in alphabetical order):

- Astro Boy
- Avatar
- Bolt
- Final Fantasy VII - Advent Children
- How to Train your Dragon
- Indiana Jones
- The Matrix
- Pokemon - Only the FIRST THREE of them (there are 14 now)
- Pure Pwnage (close enough to a movie)
- Tron and Tron: Legacy
- Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971)

Which is better: chocolate or peanut butter?

Barq's Rootbeer.

So, I heard you like mudkips?

If they're not part of the original 151, they don't exist.

What was there before T9K?

Many thanks to Wooty for taking the time to answer these questions. As an editorial note, I considered drawing some things for this GTKAG, but I felt I would be encroaching in some way of Y2hecate's work, since the only image in my head I can think of Woot is the one she has created (granted, my work in Paint would never hold a candle to the caliber of work she has created, I still felt it wouldn't be entirely right to even try). This week I would like to try something a little different in terms of voting for the next GTKAG. I'm going to leave it up to you all to NOMINATE the next person. Whoever has their name nominated the most, will be chosen for the next week. I'll be calculating the nominations about this time next week. Please, only one nomination per person, but you can change your mind, if you so wish.

THIS was a fantastic read and it is awesome to gain a bit of perspective on the illustrious Wooty. A fraction of my faith in humanity has been restored knowing that there is another out there who believes that the original 151 pokemon are the only ones that exist. and as nominations go.... I must nominate goldseeker since she has stated she is willing to participate in her request to nominate herself.

YES! :D Loved getting to know teh Wootaybootay. I vote for... Moondoggy23. You need to ask yourself some questions dude.
