A thread to discuss creating games and to publicise games newly created, be it yours or a friends, that you'd like played!
Eg. What programs you use.
A game idea you'd like to discuss.
etc etc.

I am bad at making threads, it shows.

I'm curious to see what gets posted in this thread. :3 Also, I have several concepts for games I want to make. 1 is a 2D metroidvania style platformer with various ways of doing pretty much everything. Another is a Skyrim-like 3D adventure game with an "evolving" combat system, i.e. the more you fight, the more you learn to do in terms of abilities. And another being focused more around stealth than anything. Only the second one has a bit of work done on it, however, it's very rough.

I wanna see this game that you've already started! xD

They all have a lot of promise; i would love to be a beta tester :3

All i have to throw to the table is a game in which the story follows the waist turret Gunner of a Boeing B-17 Flying fortresd; of how you leanr his grandfather faught during world war I (you play as his grandfather) then to him joining the military and being assigned to his position and plane.

After a brief campaign on the B-17, he is then re-assigned to run escort for the B-29, named "Bock's Car" that drops one of the atomic bombs. After seeing this horror, and after being assigned Co-Pilot of the second B-29 "Enola Gay". Once here his escort is attacked not only by japanese planes, but by their Air defenses on the islands. He loses his pilot, and he is then faced with the decision to drop the bomb and kill countless civilians, or not, and risk letting the war last even longer.

Literally, all I have is stuff written down. ._.; Trust me, I'd love to have something really to show for it, but I don't. However, within the next few days, I'm going to be focusing on learning GameMaker Studio, considering they're updating the free version to be as useful as the $50 version was.

I, hopefully, would like to make a game that's a bit spooky as well as interesting and visually pleasing.
So far it's called 'Deception' and is set on an abandoned space station where the player wakes up and has no idea who or where they are. They have to reach the escape pod before they are 'Captured' by the station's guardians.
The guardians are bio-mechanical creatures categorised as Demi-gods, Deities and Gods. Gods being the most powerful and dangerous and Demi-gods being the weakest and least powerful.

The higher the level, the less lights they have. Only the mask of a God glows. The others have many more lights and characteristics that give the player a warning of it's approach. The lower the category, the more common they are.
The entire goal is to escape the station with the help of The Voice [Who is not revealed until the very end] and live to tell the tale.
Well?
Good game concept?

If this were on kickstarter I would kick it so hard it'd become retarded. I'm a relatively half-assed designer/programmer so if you need any help from someone like me I'd be glad to do so when I can.

Also, I'm assuming this is a 3D game? or are you making this a 2D game?

Well I'll hopefully have enough to start making the game soon. I'll most likely need some help doing 3d modelling and programming, since I'm hopeless with Maya and Unity. But I can do textures, designs and concepting.
tis the way of the imagination to concept xD.
Thank you for the offer! I'll hopefully get something going soon than simply showing pictures and ideas.

Yes. I'd play it. And that's saying a lot from someone who shies away from anything generally labeled as "spooky" due to extreme cowardice. :3 By the description, I'm assuming the genre could be classified as stealth-survival? Basically, the smart idea would be to not be seen at all, and getting seen is generally an "Ohshitohshitohshitrunrunrun" moment?

I am definitely not one for spooky.
Alien was too spooky for me xD. I hate getting scared.
And I'm not sure what it'd be classified. Most likely stealth-survival, since the aim is to survive and not be killed.
I'm also thinking, if I ever get it off the ground, the whole station could be open map. Meaning there could be different endings or secret places. An achievement could be discovering the whole station. The more places you go, the more likely you'll escape.

So you want to make a game and have no $$$.

A good engine to use in this case is Unity. It is free unless you want to do stuff that will make your game run better on weaker hardware or make more than 10K on a game made with it.

A good modeling program to use is Blender. It is open source so there is no restrictions with what you can do with the content you create.

Both of these tools are professional grade and are used in the industry by some Indy Developers and by large Game Farms (The studios who create those crappy movie based games).

Game Maker is excellent for entry-level development. However, last time I checked, its capabilities are reserved for sprite-based 2D games. If you have any ambitious ideas, save them for when you would work with Unity, or even better, Source or Unreal.

Speaking of Game Maker, I worked on some projects in high school in 2011-2012. You'll find them on this page, as the game "ROFLNET" and the Space Invaders project under the name "Bryan Newsome." They're not polished, as neither of them have ANY sound, and are short in length.

[collapse=ROFLNET]
Our original idea with this game was to parody the current internet phenomena, namely Minecraft, MLP:FiM, DeviantArt, and a few others; by using our own characters and sending them into the internet to interact with these phenomena to show how silly they all are. We originally had content for 3 characters, but realized that we were slow and lazy developers, and reduced the characters to only the "Epic Beard Man," as we called him. Note, he has no relation to any old war veterans that may have beat people up on buses, he's our own character. Do not steal.

Also, because we were slow and lazy developers, we only finished the Minecraft level. Do not let this discourage you, though, as this one level should take you an hour, IF you manage to beat its very high difficulty. Some of the code is poorly optimized, so you may have trouble with older computers.

Tips:
-Use projectiles on Zombies, punches on Skeletons, and power attacks on Creepers.

-Your block works on anything except explosions caused by the creeper and the bosses.

-If you find a secret chest, punch it! It has food and powerups in it.

-These secrets are EVERYWHERE. The ones I'll tell you involve:
-Jumping between the trees you start next to, when you get to the third tree, turn around.
-A hole in the wall before you first drop into the cave, on the other side of the drop.
-A few hidden under lava pools that you'll either have to get hurt to access, or use a short time of invincibility to pass into. One of these lava pools has the secret "bonus enemy."

-You'll need these secrets. The golden apples/armor drops are invaluable.[/collapse]

The tutorial button doesn't work, so I'll list controls here:
Mouse: move
Mouse1: Fire laser
Mouse2: Fire bomb

Powerups drop periodically from the top of the screen. The large objects in the background are planets, and don't affect gameplay.
Make sure you're using the one by "Bryan Newsome," the one that lets you choose your ship's color before you start.

If you have any ambitious ideas, save them for when you would work with Unity, or even better, Source or Unreal.

I would recommend Unity over Source and Unreal because it has a good balance of features for a good cost. Unreal looks better than unity for now but Unity is improving VERY rapidly and will soon surpass Unreal for quality. Also Unity uses OpenGL so games made with it will run on anything while games made with Unreal will not.

I would advice against using Source unless you want to quickly make a multiplayer game (In that case use source).

I have worked with GameMaker, RPGMaker, and BYOND and would not recommend them for making anything more than a Mod Quality game. Those engines are fine for testing gameplay mechanics but I would not deploy anything made with them.

Also I would recommend you to go through a introductory programing tutorial before you start. To find one just google "<name_of_programing_language> tutorial". Python, Javascript, and Java are good languages to learn in. C++ is more functional but because of that it is harder to learn as your first language.

Boosting this thread because I have a new-and-improved concept for 'Deception', which I'm currently just calling Station for lack of a better name.

This time in the 2.0 concept I'm going a little more 'out-there' with the setting and making it a little more detailed than the 'Get off the station and avoid the baddies'.
I've been thinking about it, and another game I'll hopefully make in the near future, and have decided I'll make it a sort-of prequel to my other W.I.P game nicknamed 'H.P'.

The game itself is going to keep it's original concept but I'm adding more depth to it by adding a story and possibly more aspects in how you go about getting off the station and what you find while dawdling around. Now it's more of a Action RPG and possibly a first-person shooter.
It's all still going to be based on a station that's been attacked by Spacers/Pirates and has practically been pillaged and left to drift above a planet. You wake up in a stasis chamber and find that the station has been put into lock down and most sections have been sealed due to the damage and the only functional escape pod is on the other side of the station. You aim is to initially get off the station and to safety, but before the Pirates left they turned every security robot and function on anything that moves, including the station's occupants. An A.I helps you through the journey as you explore the station and fight to survive.

I know I'm not the best at explaining stuff, but I hope that gives you guys an idea of what the game has become now. It's very similar to the original and I'd mention the end, but It'd ruin the story and I'd like to keep it secret to the general public.
I'd love to make this game but I just don't have the programming skills to do it and I'm not quite up to par on art either, but the game is a 100% solid game. All it needs is an image.

Opinions/Ideas/Suggestions?

Just gonna say that it sounds kind of like another game (Can't remember the name tho, its a place you are like a prisoner in a lab where they have experimented enemys, that looks like clay dolls kind of, with all these diffrent abilitys like open doors and speaking into your mind and so forth.)
Am not good at anything useful like stuff like well. . This. (Tho i am a bit artistic but am probebly not good enough for these stuff.)

Just saying this cause it spurred up the memory i had of that game, whatever the name of it now is.

I don't think I've heard of a game like that.
Though I don't see how you saw the connection between my game and this mestery game xD.
My game doesn't have any 'supernatural' aspects like the ones you mentioned and the station is a science and research station. The character you play was someone who lived/worked on the station.

Just as a note, some of the stuff you've quoted isn't actually in the game anymore. Hence the posting of the 2.0 version.
You wake up and know who you are. The 'Guardians' are now just normal security type mechs and you don't particularly have to use an escape pod to get off the station.

I'm glad you like it though :D. I'd be doing it right now but I don't have the programming or other skills to make it an awesome game.

Its the idea of trying to escape from "someplace" while being hunted by diffrent "enemys"
THAT is what makes me remember it. Its not like it makes the idea worse in my opinion.
