Fortune picks are awesome. However, I was trying to get Silk Touch. For 50 XP, I was pretty disappointed. If I hadn't spent as much XP on it and still got Fortune III, it wouldn't have been as big of an issue.

Anyways, enough detailing by me.

It's 25-50, from what I've heard.

I've never heard of ever needing 50. Heck, first time I tried to get Silk Touch, I got it, with 16 levels. That was an iron pickaxe, but still.

It depends on the material used for the pick as well.

It was a diamond pick. The wiki said that the chance of getting silk touch was highest at level 50. Also, isn't there a higher fortune enchantment? If not, it wasn't such a waste! Although it doesn't really matter as I deleted the world.

On the topic of Fortune III Diamond Pickaxes, I once used 50 levels of experience in a singleplayer world and guess what I got: a fortune III pick. Useful, but for 50 XP? Worst. Enchantment. Ever.

Dont even talk about that - I wanted to shout really loud.
