I have a bad habit of forgetting to order stuff if I don't do it when I think about it. Worst case, I link the hard copy install with steam

"If" they do a dual release, this probably won't be possible. Otherwise, you'd be able to sell your "origin copy" while keeping the steam copy.
 
I mean set it so I launch the hard copy with steam. Otherwise, I might just buy both and give the hard copy to my girlfriend.
 
Been doing a gigantic background check on SimCity.

There's going to be an hour's Q&A/Livestream tonight at 9-10pm PST. That should clear up a lot. The big reason not to buy right now is this:
IT'S ONLINE ONLY

Yes, that's right, the SimCity reboot will be online-only. A casual game. What the hell are you thinking, Maxis? The second problem there is that once EA deem the program unprofitable (Hint: if they don't put in an offline mode), they will most likely take the servers down, leading to a gigantic waste of your $70.

Gurw, be very careful here.

I actually made a post on here about that then deleted it because we don't have any hard proof it's online only. All I had was a pissed off youtuber who commented

It requires an online connection to sync the every growing "sim world" and for DRM. That does not categorize it as a casual game. You're thinking in the sense of Farmville or SimCity Social, however what they mean is that it will require a "always on" connection for DRM and other features, this is the result of piracy. It won't be played from the cloud, but it will just require a connection to the internet.

Hope that clears your perception a bit.

Inb4 0day release.
Somewhat tempted to pick this up (been an avid fan of Yoot Saito and Maxis), here's hoping it's not an Origin exclusive...
 
I'll wait till closer to launch before jumping to any conclusions. I also consider any of the faults mentioned in this thread as EA's grubby hands smearing poop all over Maxis' work to supposedly make it smell sell better.
 
I first heard about this from a post on the Playstation Forums. I never played Sims City before but I'll be sure to play and buy the new one. I heard Feb. 2013 is the DOR for the new Sims City. I can't wait to play it!

And when was that announced? You realize my post is 7 months old. Regardless, it's good to know for anyone interested in the new SimCity game.

It was annouced fairly recently, link is here

It's mainly just some developer telling everyone the usual shit about how great the game is and then telling everyone that that's why you can't have an offline mode, even if none of your friends will play it anyway, you still can't play offline.
