Jungle Tree Sapling: So close, yet so far

so playing with it a bit.. it seems to derp when a vine on the tree tries to spawn into an object like snow on a block.
 
went to snow, gave it a 6x6 field, and it grew, no snow or blocks within the sapling y range.

Did you follow the recommendations on the wiki and put the jungle sapling in the southeast block and tried to grow it on flat land?
